Top NFL Running Back Groups

The Indianapolis Colts lead this ranking at No. 1, followed by the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers. The Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions complete the top five.

The top of the list includes several teams with established rushing attacks and talented backfields. Atlanta, for example, is ranked No. 1 in PFF’s current 2026 running back unit rankings, led by Bijan Robinson, while Detroit is No. 2 with Jahmyr Gibbs leading its backfield.

The Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens and Green Bay Packers also sit inside the top 12 in this ranking. These teams give fans several strong rushing groups to watch during the 2026 season.

At the other end, the Minnesota Vikings, Carolina Panthers, Washington Commanders and Jacksonville Jaguars occupy the bottom four spots in this particular ranking. That does not mean those teams cannot run the football effectively; team performance can change throughout the season because of injuries, offensive-line play and changes in workload.

The Colts, Eagles, 49ers, Falcons and Lions make up the top five in this 2026 NFL running back ranking. The list is a simple preseason guide for fans comparing team backfields, while other analysts may rank the groups differently based on their own methods and projections.
