National Football League

The National Football League (NFL) is the premier professional football league in the United States. The league has 32 teams, divided between the AFC and NFC conferences, with each conference further divided into four divisions of four teams each. Each season begins with three weeks of preseason, followed by an 18-week regular season, during which each team plays 17 games due to a bye week.

Following the regular season, the NFL postseason starts as a single-elimination tournament with four rounds culminating in the Super Bowl. As of 2025, seven teams from each conference, seeded 1 through 7 based on their overall records, will qualify for the playoffs. The NFL postseason includes 13 games: six games during Wild Card Weekend, four games in the Divisional Round, two Conference Championship games, and the Super Bowl.

Excluding the Super Bowl host location, the host city for every playoff game is determined by the teams’ 1 through 7 seeds. The No. 1 seed earns a first-round bye and home-field advantage in the Divisional Round, playing against the lowest-seeded winner from the Wild Card Round. In Wild Card Weekend, the 2nd seed hosts the 7th seed, the 3rd seed hosts the 6th seed, and the 4th seed hosts the 5th seed.

The Green Bay Packers is the most 13 title holder in the league’s history before and after the Super Bowl era. However, the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers each hold six Vince Lombardi trophy in the Super Bowl era.
